A wedding. They first met at a wedding. Of course. Queue a blizzard during a snowy December wedding and Sara on the phone with the transportation company who had the wedding party on board and they were trapped on 95.
No one could get to the venue on time,
but Alex did. Of course Alex did.
He walked in and Sara barely noticed, as she was buried in it (snow... stress...)
but he was there to represent the band, always on time... reliable, no matter the elements. They don't remember much about that meeting, but it was a familiar pattern that would repeat throughout their knowing each other. Sara fighting the good fight and Alex providing reliable calm.
Years later, Sara and Alex reconnected when Sara and her bridesman, John attended a show where Alex was playing live music... in a uncharacteristic red jumpsuit. She spotted him, John spotted him. Game on. Sara + John went drink for drink as they competed to see who would win Alex's affection.
As it turns out, Alex was not into John. Alex was also not into Sara. But what transpired was a recognition that Alex had been Sara's wedding band rep for quite some time. They had been e-mailing for years.
Sara found Alex, once more, wildly competent at work - how refreshing. Alex, generally easy to scoff, found Sara's antics after one too many Sunny D cocktails at that show delightfully amusing.
What forged from here was a friendship. Sara understanding that as a single mom, a younger objectively good looking man whose staggering beauty drew the attention of both her and John was
not her journey.
Sara relented without a heavy heart and they proceeded to forge a wildly
strong friendship. A closeness that consisted of Sara dressing Alex for dates
and touching base when they both got home from awful dates explaining the miseries. Sara and Alex continued to text, building up to all day every day, as
they consistently saw and swiped left on each other every time one of them deleted and resigned up for the dating apps.
After months that culminated in Alex being there for Sara during some low lows, Sara knew. He loved her. She had always loved him. Not one to dance around it, Sara pushed for Alex to "figure his sh*t out". After a bit of time, and a Valentines Day gig with Sara's best friend (our now wedding officiant), Najwa, where he couldn't help but immediately ask how Sara was doing and confess he messed things up, he realized he couldn't imagine life without her and figured they could maybe get dinner.
After the most awkward dinner on a Wednesday night in a usually dimly lit restaurant that was for some ungodly reason on full overhead light blast, Sara and Alex laughed and talked, as they always did - regardless of it maybe not making sense in context.
Months turned into a year of Alex falling in love with Sara and admitting it. Alex falling in love with Brady and admitting it and the trio easily falling into a perfect unit. A blending together as a family. Two cats. A trip to Canada, a ring.
